Hybrid numerical–asymptotic code for dispersive- pulse propagation calculations

چکیده
A fast, hybrid numerical–asymptotic algorithm for the calculation of the dynamical field evolution that is due to an arbitrary input pulse in any linear dispersive, attenuative medium is presented. The algorithm combines the numerical efficiency of the fast-Fourier-transform algorithm over a finite frequency domain that encompasses all the medium resonances with the accuracy and analytical efficiency of the asymptotic description that fully accounts for the high-frequency structure above the highest resonance that is characteristic of the dispersive medium. © 1998 Optical Society of America [S0740-3232(98)03505-4] OCIS codes: 260.0260, 320.0320, 260.2030.

Generalized asymptotic description of the propagated field dynamics in Gaussian pulse propagation in a linear, causally dispersive medium
As the initial pulse envelope width of an input Gaussian pulse-modulated harmonic wave is increased above the characteristic relaxation time of a single resonance Lorentz model dielectric, the classical asymptotic description of the propagated field becomes increasingly inaccurate at a fixed propagation distance and must then be generalized in order to become uniformly valid with respect to the...
متن کاملShear wave propagation in a periodically layered medium- an asymptotic theory
The propagation of low frequency or long wavelength disturbances in periodically layered media is considered. An asymptotic series is derived for the frequency of the first branch of the Bloch wave spectrum. The expansion is in dimensionless wavenumber and is developed explicitly for SH waves traveling obliquely through layerings with arbitrary periodic stratification. The first dispersive term...
متن کاملPropagation of the main signal in a dispersive
Evolution of the main signal in a Lorentz dispersive medium is considered. The signal propagating in the medium is excited by a sine-modulated pulse signal, with its envelope described by a hyperbolic tangent function. Both uniform and non-uniform asymptotic representations for the signal are found. It is shown when the uniform representation can be reduced to the non-uniform one. The results o...
متن کاملModulation instability for a relaxational Kerr medium
We investigated on the influence of a temporally dispersive Kerr effect on the modulation instability and the propagation of solitary wave pulse. The modulation instability gain is derived and compared with numerical calculations. The role of nonlinear response time on reshaping the solitary pulse is examined. 2008 Elsevier B.V. متن کاملFailure of the group-velocity description for ultrawideband pulse propagation in a causally dispersive, absorptive dielectric
The accuracy of the group-velocity description of dispersive pulse propagation in a double-resonance Lorentz model dielectric is shown to decrease monotonically as the propagation distance increases, whereas the accuracy of the asymptotic description increases monotonically as the propagation distance increases above a single absorption depth in the medium at the pulse carrier frequency. © 1999...
